Successful Exits
SmartCells (2006-2010, 50-100% IRR at exit & portion or revenues going forward. IRR varied from round-to-round)
SmartCells is developing SmartInsulin, a once-a-day, self regulating, injectable formulation for treating diabetes. The technology, in clinical trials as of late 2010, offers the promise to literally save life and limb for those suffering with the worst forms of diabetes. SmartCells was acquired by Merk in 2010, yielding RVI members a cash-on-cash internal rate of return of between 50-100% (depending on the round) and a percentage of profits going forward.
Oxford Performance Materials (2004-2008, 24% IRR)
Oxford Performance Materials provided the versatile OXPEKK® polymers to long-term human medical implant devices, to critical components of the semiconductor manufacturing process and fuel cell components for the Space Shuttle. OXPEKK® delivers ultra high purity, high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance, biocompatibility and mechanical properties comparable to metals.
Oxford Performance Materials was acquired by an undisclosed party in 2008, yielding RVI a 24% internal rate of return.
Optasite (2006-2008, 30% IRR)
Taking advantage of depressed pricing during the telecommunications slump in 2003, Optasite developed and acquired a portfolio of owned and managed communications tower sites and related site acquisition activities.
Optasite was acquired in 2008 by SBA Communications, yielding RVI a 30% internal rate of return.
Active Investments
Colony Hills Capital (2010)
Colony Hills Capital has been organized to invest in existing income-producing multifamily apartment properties that can often be acquired at prices below replacement cost. While not your typical angel investment, CHC uses a model and team with a >40 year track record of generating returns of 30% (IRR) per year with dramatically lower risk than typical angel opportunities.
Tribute Creations (2010)
Tribute Creations is commercializing technology that dramatically improves the efficiency and throughput of hydrogen reformation facilities.
Incentive Targeting (2010)
Incentive Targeting has created a unique marketing platform that brings together our network of supermarket chains and grocery manufacturers around the shared goals of driving sales and increasing profitability. RVI had the privileged of leading a syndicate of 8 angel groups in investing in this company.
EstateWorks Acquisition of ConvenientCards (2009)
RVI facilitated the acquisition of ConvenientCards by EstateWorks in 2009. EstateWorks is the industry leader in estate planning and settlement solutions for the legal and financial industries. Convenient Cards markets and manages “prepaid card” electronic payment programs around the globe.
Pet Angel World Services (2009)
Pet Angel World Services is a roll up/consolidation of pet death care service providers. They provide Veterinarians/clients a complete range of pet death care services using best-in-class technology, operating practices, logistics and QA programs.
Extreme Reach (2009)
The Extreme Reach video platform links hundreds of advertisers and agencies with thousands of TV broadcasters and cable providers and thousands of Web and mobile publishers all of whom form the Extreme Reach Network. It’s the only all-in-one solution on the market for ad delivery and ad streaming across all video media.
Dexrex (2007)
Dexrex provides data management services for instant messaging (IM) (e.g., AIM, Yahoo Messenger) and mobile text messaging services (SMS). Dexrex empowers legal compliance, “active archiving” for eDiscovery and productivity management. For Service Providers, parental monitoring and mobile transaction archiving applications are also enabled by Dexrex. The company has product lines for the enterprise (DexrexGear) and consumer (Dexrex) markets.
Davis Media (2007)
Davis Media, LLC acquires and operate radio stations in the Virginia including: www.tideradio.com and www.wbach.net
Envoy Health (2006)
Envoy Health is a national provider of mail order direct-to-consumer diabetes testing supplies.www.envoyhealth.com
Optical Alchemy (2005)
